Investment firms buy companies to grow profits and sell the combined platform in a few years at a higher price. Industry analyses of these deals describe target margin improvements of several points within about two years of purchase. That money has to come from somewhere. 2. Look at the photos on their website and social media. Stock photography of generic technicians in generic houses is a common sign that marketing is handled by a national office. Real companies show real people and real local jobs.
3. Ask who owns the company. Call and ask. A locally owned company will tell you the owner’s name without hesitation. You may even get the owner on the phone.
